Most people bring computers to be serviced with issues that can usually be prevented.
Here are a few things that you can do to help keep your computer out of the shop
- Keep Microsoft® Windows up to date!
- Turn on Automatic updates in windows, if you haven't yet!
- Go to Windows Update by clicking this link!
- You may need to go back several times to get all of the updates!
- Always choose the Express option, these are the most critical updates, security patches and service packs!
- Install antivirus software.
- Keep virus definitions up to date.
- Antivirus software usually have definitions available weekly.
- If you don't know how to update your definitions, contact the software manufacturer
or other tech support. - Run scans on your computer at least weekly to ensure top performance
- Install anti-spyware/malware programs.
- Some of the best apps available are Ad-Aware©, and Spybot-Search and Destroy©.
- These programs are free for personal use so enjoy!
- Always download the software from a trusted site such as download.com
- As with antivirus software, keep definitions for these programs up to date.
- Run scans on your computer at least weekly to ensure top performance
